Painting the Old Things Gold

I recently had a conversation with a cousin of mine who is getting engaged, and it is amazing witnessing the dreams she has waited for coming to reality via her relationship with her future husband. As she shared about the unexpected romance which chased her down with kindness, patience, and grace, we celebrated the words the Spirit of God has brought to be in both of our lives. We reflected how we continue to come to know, despite the many seasons of the faith walk, that if God has spoken a word, it will come to be.

It was the words of the Holy Spirit which have led me into and out of some of the most pivotal seasons of my life. Words like:

"You and your Dad will dance at your wedding."

"I am causing you to go through this so that you can help other people through it, and you are strong enough to go through it."

"Your words have power."

"I am going to paint the old things gold."

These are just a few of the words God has spoken over my life...the most sacred, I will continue to hold in my heart. After having traversed many seasons: of fire, desert, wilderness, valleys and mountaintops, I now find myself tasting the goodness of God in the land of the living. Spirit had said that 2022 would be a year of shifting, but I didn't think the shift could possibly be so sure, so complete.

From the shift in my career, moving from an executive assistant role to a hybrid role created for me, to a research analyst, within the research center I'm coming up on three years at.

From leaving a relationship which had high highs and low lows, and learning to invite in love that is steady and secure.

From joining the prayer team at church and slowly but surely creating community again, even in the transient SF bay area.

From buying my condo and creating a welcoming, restful home of my own nestled near the water and under the redwoods.

From witnessing my brother marry a wonderful woman who has long been a sister, and celebrating their union, to awaiting the birth of my second nephew and the return of his family to the Bay Area, so that our other sister can start her dream job.

The shift has been full and complete. To see the fruition of things we have worked, hoped, and persevered for come to be, seamlessly, leaves me awed, content, and peaceful about the future. As determined from the conversation with my beloved cousin, if the Spirit of God says it, it is as good as gold.

"Blessed is she who has believed the Lord would fulfill his promises to her."

Luke 1:45
